Broadway on the Rhône River

Playbill Travel’s first-ever river cruise, an addition to the popular Broadway on the High Seas series. Guests enjoyed a week of Broadway, Burgundy, and Brie down the Rhône River from May 21-May 28, 2017 on Uniworld's S.S. Catherine. Many of our past passengers requested a river cruise, and we are never one to disappoint!

Beginning in Avignon and making stops in Tarascon-sur-Rhône, Viviers, Tournon/Tain L’Hermitage, Lyon, and Mâcon, the magnificent S.S. Catherine took passengers on a tour of some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. This cruise had a special emphasis on the foods and wines of the Rhône region—it was quite the treat for lovers of French cuisine.

In addition to our Broadway performers, there was another (culinary) star onboard for this voyage! World renowned sommelier Jean-Luc le Dû led passengers through an appreciation of the delicacies of Burgundy and Provence as the S.S. Catherine sailed leisurely northward. Jean-Luc planned three regionally-themed dinners, which included four wines each to indulge and delight, and included wines of the Northern Rhône, Beaujolais/Mâconnais, and Burgundy.

Also, there were cocktail hours on deck and wine pairings with local chocolate and cheese. Jean-Luc supplied the ship with the wares of a number of local award-winning chocolate suppliers and individual Maître de Fromage. He also planned series of special shore excursions, including a visit to a picturesque heritage olive oil farm.
