Broadway on the Rhine River!

Playbill Travel's second European river cruise, Broadway on the Rhine River!, began in Switzerland's Basel and sailed leisurely to the Netherland's Amsterdam from August 13-20, 2017 on Uniworld's S.S. Antoinette.

Playbill Travel journeyed along the fairytale shores of the Rhine for a week of romantic landscapes, terrific wine, gourmet fare, and the best of Broadway. This cruise featured the immeasurable talents of Tony winner Faith Prince, Drama Desk winner Andréa Burns, Tony nominees Terrence Mann, Charlotte d’Amboise, and Santino Fontana, and music director Seth Rudetsky. Uniworld River Cruises' S.S. Antoinette served as a luxurious home-base from which to explore the great cities, quaint hamlets, local gourmet producers, and UNESCO heritage sites along the Rhine.

Together we discovered the picturesque region of Alsace, whose combined French and German heritage has created unique world-renowned cuisine and palate-pleasing wines. We explored the magnificent cities of Strasbourg and Cologne, whose Gothic cathedrals are among the most visited in Europe, and found inspiration in the enchanting towns of Riquewihr, Kaysersberg, and Rüdesheim, where beautiful red geraniums decorate the windowsills of the brightly painted half-timbered houses. In true Playbill fashion, there was first-class Broadway entertainment and many exciting surprises along the way.

Ports of Call

Broadway on the Rhine River departed from the city of Basel, Switzerland on August 13th in partnership with Uniworld River Cruises, chosen by Travel + Leisure Magazine as the "World’s Best River Cruise Line" in 2016. Traveling through Germany's Breisach, Kehl, Rüdesheim, and Cologne—our trip concluded in the Netherlands' Amsterdam, the "Venice of the North".

Basel
Our journey began in Basel, a Swiss hub of arts and culture with over 40 museums and a charming Old Town.
Breisach
We ventured ashore to the nearby postcard-perfect wine villages of Kaysersberg and Riquewihr, as well as hopping the border to France to take a tour of Colmar’s historic center.
Kehl
The nearby Alsatian city of Strasbourg has a UNESCO-designated city center with a magnificent Gothic cathedral and charming half-timbered houses.
Mannheim (Speyer)
Guests discovered Speyer, one of Germany's oldest cities with a compact medieval center rich with Roman, Imperial, and Jewish legacies.
Rüdesheim
Guests explored Rüdesheim and its famously narrow Drosselgasse before enjoying a wine tasting at a 14th-century castle.
Koblenz
After a morning of scenic cruising, travelers headed ashore for a tour of Koblenz or an aerial tram ride up to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, which offered dazzling views of the Moselle and Rhine Rivers.
Cologne
Guests weaved through the narrow Old Town streets of Cologne en route to the city’s imposing Gothic cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Amsterdam
Our trip concluded in Amsterdam, the ‘Venice of the North,' and one of Europe's most beautiful cities.
